Mater Vidiam is the fossil of an evolution of the sight area. A possible transformation caused by the pressure of an overexposed environment and the need for protection through identity’s concealment. Its pattern is inspired by the microstructure of crustaceans’ and insects’ exoskeletons.
Biodigitally grown through a generative simulation, it differentiates areas of the object modulating their structure, stiffness, permeability.
Mater Vidiam is composed by a single plate, secured to the head by an elastic tape. Mater Vidiam is customized on the wearer’s anatomy, acquired via a 3d scan of his head. Mater Vidiam’s plate is 3d printed in Windform LX2.0, while its tape’s buckles are 3d printed in Windform GT, both materials are developed and produced by CRP Technology in Modena, Italy. Windform LX 2.0 and Windform GT are polyamide-based materials reinforced with glass fibers. Their mechanical features bring the 3D printing process many steps ahead. Functional, fully-customized and beautifully-finished top face masks are made possible with Windform.
A gold plate reports its ID data, including name and serial number. It is manifactured by Italian craftsmen in Bologna, Italy.
